-다는 거 packages a whole statement as a thing, and 알다 says it is known. The helper verb after it carries the real point: 알아주다 asks someone to appreciate or acknowledge it (저는 알고 기억하고 있다는 거 알아줬으면 좋겠어요, I'd like you to know I remembered), and 알아두다 means take it on board for later (그렇다는 거 알아두시고요). Bare 알다 just states the knowledge — 저거 힘들다는 거 알아.
