어 보다

try doing it, give it a go

Attached to a verb it means to try the action out and see: 맞춰 보실래요? "want to try guessing?", 인사해 보겠습니다 "let's go ahead and say hello", 공부해 보겠습니다 "let's have a go at studying this". In the past tense it shifts to have ever done it, reporting experience: 감귤을 따 봤는데 "I picked tangerines and...", 해 본 적 없죠? "you've never done it, have you?". It softens whatever it touches, which is why hosts and teachers use it constantly instead of a flat command. The 보다 here has lost its literal meaning of see.
