어 가다

goes on; moves away doing

Adds a sense of the action carrying onward, away from where the speaker stands or forward in time: it's almost one in the morning, they're dying, following along the signs, going in, passing through. With a time or process it means gradually approaching that point. Its counterpart is 어 오다, which brings the movement or the stretch of time toward the speaker and the present. Many of the resulting words — going in, going past, following — are now ordinary everyday verbs.
