Also spelled ojuda

do something for someone's benefit

Added to a verb, it says the action is done for someone else rather than just done. 전해 줘 "pass it on for me", 보여주세요 "show it to me", 남겨 주세요 "please leave one". This is how requests are made polite: 해 주세요 is the standard please do this, and 안 열어 주시나요? asks whether they will not do it for us. Leave 주다 out and the same verb sounds blunt or purely factual. The honorific version 드리다 is used when doing something for someone senior.
