Joins a preparation step to eating, and Korean uses it where English just says "eat": buying it and eating it (eating out or grabbing a snack), cooking it yourself, heating it up, dipping it in soy sauce, scooping it out, catching and eating a chicken. The pattern is so routine that most learners meet these as single vocabulary words. A few compounds built the same way have drifted into insult territory, so treat unfamiliar ones with care rather than assuming they are about food.
