어 놓다

do it and leave it

Does the action and leaves the result standing for later: the red light gets left on all night, the thing stays stuck up on the wall, example sentences are written out in advance, cash is pulled out ahead of the trip. The point is preparation or a state deliberately left in place, often with a hint of "someone did this on purpose". Compare 어 있다, which describes the same standing state with no doer in view. In speech it contracts heavily, so the verb for doing plus this ending fuses into one short word.
