live one's life by something

살아가다 is living as an ongoing course, where plain 살다 is just being alive. What comes before it here is a phrase saying by what or for what: 무엇을 위해 살아가고 있는지 'what you're living for', 성경에 따라 살아가야 되며 'must live according to scripture', 심장이 뛰는 대로 그 박자에 맞춰 살아가렵니다 'I'll live to the beat of my heart'. 더불어 살아가다, appearing twice, is the set phrase for living alongside other people.
