다니다 is going about regularly — commuting, moving around, doing the rounds — and -아/어서 says in what state or manner: 두 발로 서서 다니고 'walking about on two legs', 햇빛 피해서 다니고 'getting around avoiding the sun', 붙어서 다니는 커플 'a couple who go everywhere stuck together'. 알아서 다니다 is getting about on your own terms, without being led.
