The first clause gives the contest and 지다 is losing it. Five of these eight lines are the same everyday scene, where they play rock-paper-scissors and the loser does the chore: steam the dumplings, run back to the dorm, go up. Be careful with the shape, since the same syllables can belong to 짓다, to build, which is what one of the printed lines actually is when it says it must have taken hundreds of years.
