꺼내다 is taking something out of where it was kept — leftover bread out of the bag, juice out of the fridge, edible bits picked out of scraps, people pulled out of the sea. -어서 gives the reason or the step before: hungry, so out it came. 꺼내 입다 is taking clothes out and putting them on for an occasion that deserves them.
