어서 멈추다

멈추다 is coming to a halt or bringing something to one, and -아서/어서 names the cause or the means. Braking accounts for several lines (무서워서 브레이크를 많이 잡아서 멈췄거든요, 급 브레이크를 밟아서 멈췄다는 거죠); being stopped by someone else accounts for another (결국 제작진이 말려서 멈췄다고 합니다). It also covers freezing on the spot, used as a caption: [놀라서 멈춤], [게이지 떨어져서 멈춤]. For quitting an activity for good, Korean reaches for 그만두다 rather than 멈추다.
