게 알다

'How do you know?'

Most of these lines are 어떻게 알아, which asks how somebody came by a piece of knowledge: 내가 여기 있다는 건 어떻게 알았지? 'how did he know I was here?' Said with force it flips into a refusal to be held responsible — 누구긴 내가 어떻게 알아! 'how the hell would I know?' The pattern also takes other adverbs: 의미를 좀 정확하게 알기가 좀 어려운 단어예요 'it's a hard word to know the exact meaning of.'
