이어지다 is something continuing or joining up of its own accord — a relationship, a scene, a flow of colour, towns in a row. -게 says how: 훈훈하게 이어진 약 15년의 인연 'a warm connection carried on for some fifteen years', 앞뒤 장면의 디테일이 자연스럽게 이어지지 않는 경우 'when the details of consecutive scenes don't join up naturally'. 이어져 있다 simply means 'be connected': 제천, 충주, 원주 이렇게 이어져 있잖아요?
