게 이기다

win, or get through it

어떻게 이겨요? — "how am I supposed to win this?" — fills five of these lines, a protest at odds that look impossible. The compound 이겨내다 is the other half: not beating an opponent but getting through something, as in 더위를 쉽게 이겨낼 수가 있고 "you can get through the heat more easily" and 어떻게 이겨냈냐면 "here's how I got over it". Use 이기다 for a contest with a loser, and 이겨내다 for hardship, illness or heat.
