bend sharply; or turn downward
꺾이다 is the passive of 꺾다 "snap, bend" — something gets bent or broken rather than doing it itself. Physically: if it bends all the way to ninety degrees, arms bending in unnatural ways. Figuratively it is a curve turning down or a will breaking: luxury goods falling off more steeply since last winter, a conviction that won't be broken easily. The "-게" adverb sets the degree — 가파르게 steeply, 기괴하게 grotesquely, 쉽게 easily.
