Also spelled gekyoda

turn something on, switch it on

켜다 is switching something on — a device, a power supply, a light — and also lighting a fire (밤에 모닥불 이렇게 켜 놓고). The -게 adverb before it is usually 어떻게 "how": half these lines are someone asking how a thing turns on, from an air conditioner (에어컨 어떻게 켜요?) to an engine. The rest use 이렇게 "like this," said while demonstrating (오케이, 이렇게 켜고). Its opposite is 끄다, to turn off.
