Watch out for a different structure that looks the same: in 먹지 못하게 막아줘 'stop me from eating' and 비건을 하고 싶어하는 주인공을 좀 못하게 막는, the 게 belongs to 못하게 'so that they cannot' and is not a manner word at all.
