웃기다 is built as the causative of 웃다 "laugh" — literally "make laugh" — but in speech it mostly just means "be funny": 야 너 오늘 왜 이렇게 웃기냐? "why are you so hilarious today?", 쟤가 참 특이하게 웃겨 "he's funny in an odd sort of way". The true causative survives in 5분에 한 번씩 크게 웃겨드릴 것을 굳게 다짐합니다, promising to make the audience laugh every five minutes. 이렇게 웃기다 "this funny" fills most of these lines.
