붙이다 is sticking one thing onto another — cutting and gluing, putting a picture up where a name tag came off — and it pairs with its opposite 떼다, peeling off, in one line. 붙여 쓰다 is writing words joined up with no space, the counterpart of 띄어 쓰다. It also means matching two opponents against each other, which is the line about the famous man-versus-machine match.
