치다 is striking, and it lends itself to a lot of set phrases. 시험을 치다 is sitting an exam — 고통을 무릅쓰고 친 시험, "the exam he sat through the pain". Typing is also 치다: 라고 쳐주시면 감사하겠습니다, "I'd be grateful if you typed that in the comments". 짜고 치는 고스톱 is a fixed idiom for a fix — a rigged game of go-stop agreed in advance.
