고 당기다

push and pull

당기다 is pulling toward you, and it lives mostly in the pair 밀고 당기다, 'push and pull'. That is literal for a fish on a line (물고 당기는 힘이) and for a tug of war (밀고 당기는 전투 끝에), and it is the source of 밀당, the contraction used for the push-and-pull of a romance: 밀당은 밀고 당기기죠. Other lines just chain it with nearby hand actions — 찢고 당기고, 돌리고 당기고 앉히고.
