고 기다

crawl; or be a high-flier

기다 is crawling along the ground: 무릎 꿇고 들어오고 기어서, 폐각을 입고 기어다니는, [앉고 눕고 기고]. Paired with 날다 it forms the fixed phrase 날고 기다, literally "fly and crawl," which describes people who are exceptionally good at what they do: 서울에 니보다 잘생긴 사람 많고 날고 기는 애들 많은데, 아무리 날고 기어도, [날고 기는 전학생 총출동]. One line uses the crawling sense for a market inching along (미미하게 오르지 못하고 기고 있어요), and one is a cut-off 기다리다 "wait" (혼자 설레고 기다 아니다 하다가).
