Tacks a vague "and so on" onto an action, signalling that what was named is only one item among several: everyone heads home and so forth, you toured a bunch of countries and all, we chatted and whatnot, there was no occasion to drive and all that. It makes a statement sound loose and conversational instead of precise. Note that some lines are simply one verb followed by another (what I said after drinking), where no listing sense is involved.
