고 먹다

do it first, then eat

Puts a step in front of eating: 이거는 까고 먹어야 'you have to peel it first', 그래서 난 이게 소문난 만큼 맛있을까 의심부터 하고 먹었는데 'I doubted it before I ate.' The step can be paying — 충분히! 내고 먹을 것 같아요 'I'd gladly pay and eat.' In casual speech the 고 often swells into 가지고 or 갖고 without changing anything: 매운 소스 해갖고 먹죠?
