고 오다

do something and come (back)

The first verb happens elsewhere or on the way, and then the subject arrives: I'll go talk with her and come back, I went filming in five places, I listened to your album before coming, I came on the early train. With verbs for holding or taking it means bringing the thing along — or, negated, forgetting it, as with the wallet. Its mirror image is 고 가다, where the person does the thing and then heads off instead of arriving.
