고 오르다

climb; go up

The 고 clause chains what you do as you climb, and 오르다 is the going up. Most of these lines are physical: stepping on the hold and climbing, tightening your laces and pushing up, running and walking and climbing together, taking the stage with a nervous heart. A couple use the value sense instead, as in mocking the index for not rising, or a comeback big enough to climb back up.
