turns out as you say
-는 대로 means "in accordance with, exactly as," and 되다 is how things turn out. The two near-proverbs built on it run through these lines: 말하는 대로 되잖아요? and 생각하는 대로 되거든요 — what you say and picture is what you get, said encouragingly. It also covers simply getting what you wanted (다 네가 원하는 대로 될 거야) and the shrugging 안 되면 안 되는 대로 되면 되는 대로, "if it works it works, if not, fine." Note that after an action verb -는 대로 can instead mean "as soon as"; that is not the sense here.
