Points at a fact and checks whether the listener knows it. In these lines it is nearly always a question thrown to the audience just before an explanation: 한국 결혼식이 진짜 빨리 끝나는 거 아시나요? 'did you know Korean weddings finish really fast?' Said flatly it simply states knowledge — 의영 씨가 어머님 사과 기다리는 거 알아요. Compare 는지 알다, which needs a question word inside it ('know why', 'know what'); this one takes a whole fact ('know that').
