Most of these lines use the form ending in 하면, which sets up the answer immediately after: as for what else is famous at that place, as for how much damage the Philippines is taking, as for when you can start a part-time job in Korea. With 하는 것 instead, it names the question as the issue at stake, such as whether you believe your father or not, or whether I can live happily. It is a mark of explaining out loud.
