ㄴ지 물어보다

ask what, ask whether

An embedded question with "-(으)ㄴ지" or "-는지" under 물어보다, "ask, enquire". It reports the content of the question without repeating it word for word: can I ask what it is, they asked a seven-year-old to rate it out of ten, asked how many cardinals we have, didn't even ask why his friend was ill, didn't ask how his girlfriend was and just went straight to marriage. 물어보다 is the everyday "go and ask"; plain 묻다 is stiffer.
