go to do it and find that…

Five of these lines use -(으)려고 보니(까), which sets up a discovery: you set out to do something and noticed something unexpected. 엘리베이터를 타려고 보니 1층이더라고요 'I went to take the lift and realised I was already on the first floor'; 이번에 마음을 먹고 치우려고 보니까 'when I finally set out to clean up…'. In the other lines 보다 keeps its ordinary meaning of looking or watching, so read the 보- carefully.
