려고 가다

go in order to do something

-(으)려고 states the purpose of the trip: 트램을 어떻게 타는지 물어보려고 간 건데 'I went over to ask how to take the tram', 대기실 가서 사진 찍고 인사하려고 갔는데 'I went to the dressing room to take a photo and say hello'. It overlaps with -(으)러 가다, which does the same job; -려고 가다 leans a little more on the intention, and it is what you reach for when explaining yourself after the event.
