Plain dictionary form ending

The plain form — the shape a verb or describing word has in the dictionary. Teachers and captions use it to name a word ("is this word an adjective or a verb?"), and speakers use it when talking to themselves or blurting out a reaction: "nice", "I'm so sleepy", "got you". It is also the neutral style for writing, news, and narration. It carries no politeness at all, so aimed directly at a person it lands as blunt or intimate depending on the relationship.
