Confronts someone with their own words, usually to catch them out: weren't you fired this time, you said you like going alone, I heard you went on vacation, you said you weren't scared. The tone is teasing rather than hostile, and the sentence is normally left as a half-question. Mid-sentence it simply reports the claim someone made, as in the line about a friend who says his stomach hurts every time the bill arrives. It attaches to descriptions and past forms; ㄴ다며 is for present-tense action verbs and 라며 for nouns.
