'Apparently…' or storybook 'I tell you'

-다네 does two jobs in these lines. Most often it passes on what somebody said, with a touch of detachment: 그나마 안보를 해주려고 그랬더니 싫다네 'we offered them security and apparently they don't want it.' It is also the plain, old-fashioned statement ending an elder or a storybook character uses — 기쁜 소식을 전하러 왔다네 'I come bearing good news.' Either way it sounds a little theatrical.
