Links something the speaker saw or did a moment ago to what followed, usually with a twist: 센 척하더니 멘탈 나갔다 'he talked tough, and then completely lost it', 향이 안 느껴지더니 지금 딱 오네 'I couldn't smell it before, and now it hits'. With 았/었더니 the first clause is your own action and the second is the result it produced: 말했더니 'I said that, and then…', 10초 돌렸더니 'I microwaved it ten seconds, and…'. The first half has to be something you witnessed firsthand.
