Locked into 'can't do either' idioms

The everyday particle for 'also' and 'even', but in these lines it is doing something narrower: sitting on bare verb stems, doubled, inside fixed idioms of being stuck. They can neither go nor stay, an unheard-of number they had neither heard of nor seen, and a situation you can neither pull out of nor push into. Treat each of these as a set phrase — the pieces do not come apart, and building new ones this way will not work.
