어요

everyday polite verb ending

The ordinary polite ending that closes most spoken sentences: 있어요, 들었어요, 기억나요, 알겠어요. The same shape covers statements, questions and requests — only intonation separates them. Whether a verb takes 아요 or 어요 depends on the last vowel of its stem, which is why teachers drill 가다 as 가요 but 먹다 as 먹어요. In these lines it often sits mid-utterance with a word tacked on after it (기억나요, 완전 / 많이 없는 것 같아요, 비교적), which is normal in speech, not a mistake.
