은데

"but" or scene-setting, after consonants

Exactly the same ending as -ㄴ데, just the shape it takes on a descriptive stem that ends in a consonant: 수박은 싫은데 사과는 좋아해요 is "I don't like watermelon, but I like apples", 저는 괜찮은데 is "I'm fine, but…". It either contrasts what follows or simply lays out the situation first, as in 날씨도 좋은데 산책 좀 할래? — "the weather's nice, so how about a walk?". Speakers very often stop the sentence right there and let the ending imply the rest: 힘들 것 같은데… is "I think it'll be rough, though…". Which of -ㄴ데 and -은데 you see depends only on the stem's last letter.
