It marks the person something comes from: the things you often hear from your husband, the zipper bag obtained from the crew, the thing that can be taken away from you. Plain 한테 means to someone; the extra 서 reverses the direction to from. Its formal, more written twin is 에게서, and for places or things you use 에서 instead.
