right? — invites you to agree
A shortened form of 지요. The speaker says something they assume the listener already knows or will agree with, which comes out as "right?", "isn't it", or "of course" depending on tone. It also softens a flat statement into shared knowledge, so hosts use it constantly to keep an audience alongside them. Compare 네요, which reacts to something the speaker has only just noticed; this one assumes you were already on the same page. Drop the 요 and it is the casual version.
