whether / what is going to happen

Marks an open question about something not yet settled, then hands it to a verb like 모르다, 고민하다 or 궁금하다: 뭐 살지 고민 'agonizing over what to buy', 언제 깨어날지 몰라요 'no telling when he'll wake up', 어떻게 완성될지 'how it's going to turn out'. It leans toward the future or the genuinely unknown, whereas 는지 fills the same 'whether/what' slot for things already happening or already done. After a consonant it is 을지.
