Ends a line with a question about what will happen, and deliberately does not answer it: will Mom be satisfied, who will get the last question, what will happen in tomorrow's showdown. That trailing shape is the voice of variety-show teasers and on-screen captions, and it is what most of these lines are. It also sits inside a sentence as 'whether' or 'what' — not knowing how this will sound, working out what to charge.
