plain present statement; narration, exclaiming

The bare present-tense ending for action verbs, with no politeness attached: 올라간다 is "it's going up", 난다 is "it smells". Because it is aimed at nobody in particular it is the voice of captions, headlines, diaries, and of people reacting out loud to what they see. Pointed at a person it becomes a flat threat or declaration — 할퀴어 버린다 is "I'll scratch you". With a rising tone it floats a proposal: 아이싱까지 한다? is "we're putting icing on too?". Descriptive verbs use plain -다 in this slot instead.
