Every line printed here uses it in the frame 다기보다(는), meaning rather than saying X. You reach for it to reject a description, either one the other person offered or one you just used yourself, and then supply a better one. The first line does it plainly: not so much pressure as excitement. It is a hedging, self-correcting move, which is why it turns up constantly in interviews.
