Polite 'what if…?' or 'if you would…?'
-ㄴ다면요 puts a hypothetical to the listener politely and then stops, handing them the rest: 외계인이 만약에 한국을 온다면요? 'what if an alien came to Korea?' In interviews the unfinished sentence becomes a soft request — 좀 설명해 주신다면요? 'if you could explain that a little?' Every line here ends right on it, with the consequence left to the other person.
