라고요

Polite 'you're saying it's...?'

Throws a noun back at the speaker, politely, usually because you cannot quite believe or did not quite catch it: that's a swimming greeting culture?, is this a nugget?, your family's in construction? The one to learn as a unit is 뭐라고요?, the standard polite way to say 'sorry, what did you say?'. It also insists on something you already said, as in the flat 'I said don't!'.
