Shortened 'that' - mostly 란 말이야

A squeeze of 라는 / 이라는, meaning 'called X' or 'the X that...', as in the line about a song called 'Love and Hate'. But most of these lines use it inside the set phrase 란 말이야 / 란 말이에요, which is not about naming at all — it drives a point home, roughly 'I'm telling you' or 'you know?'. Learners usually meet 란 in that phrase first and mistake it for a word in its own right.
