Attached to a command it means because someone told me to, which is what most of these lines do: I was told to bring three so I picked eight, you signed it because they told you to, if you tell me to do it I end up doing it. Attached to a noun it becomes the insisting one, as in the line meaning I said fifty. Both come from a quote plus the because-marker.
