Also spelled ro

in order to (go / come)

States why you are going or coming somewhere, and it only pairs with movement verbs: 단풍을 보러 갑니다 'go to see the fall leaves', 일하러 갈 거야 'I'm heading off to work', 놀러 오세요 'come by to hang out'. After a consonant it is 으러. 려고 also means 'in order to' but works with any following verb, while 러 is locked to 가다, 오다 and 다니다. 뭐 하러 is a set phrase meaning 'what for / why bother'.
